Selah asleep with her book

After a fun morning of making Christmas ornaments (yes, we are getting an early start!) with friends, the girls and I curled up on the couch and read a while. Then I put them down for a nap with their books, and in no time at all, this is what I found. So very nice. I do wish I had a little more time before I had to run and pick up the boys… Feeling the need to be creative. (But hey, look! I wrote a blog post, so that counts!)

Creative Space

I’m so excited to finally have my own studio space! It’s just a little spot in our guest-bedroom, but it’s MY spot, and that’s what makes it special to me.

Studio space

I plan on honing my other artistic skills (something I’ve been wanting to do for ages!) and so I’ll be drawing again, and venturing into the world of painting a bit too. (I might even finish some of those knitting projects I started 3 years ago…ahem.)

Studio Table

I had thought about renting a space at the pottery studio where I work, but Kevin and I both wanted me to be working from home. (Cheaper too.) So, we set me up in our back bedroom, which isn’t in use most of the year. I’ll be able to fold my things up and clear them out when we have guests. But for the most part, I’ll be able to spread out and work, and not have to worry about little ones getting into my things. I can also shut the door and be by myself- which is kind of crucial to my creative process.

Studio closet

I even have a little space to store all my supplies in the closet! Woohoo! I’m so excited to be able to have a spot to call my own, where I can be creative and be myself. Some day I’ll have a more permanent set up (and I’m really looking forward to that,) but for now, I can’t ask for anything better than this.

Work in progress.

After we set everything up today, I sat down and tried to figure out what I should draw… Sometimes it’s hard to start up again. So I took some of my own advice, and put pencil to paper and just picked a subject (Drew at the age of 3 with grapes in his mouth) and went for it. I don’t know if it’ll amount to anything but practice… but at least I’m making progress.

P.S. I guess Kevin really likes my new space too, because he’s in here practicing his (acoustic) guitar. I’m pretty much in heaven.
