“Man is born to live, not to prepare for life.” – Boris Pasternak

It seems so simple and obvious, yet I find myself needing to be reminded of it from time to time, as my life falls into a steady rhythm of preparation instead of living. We always think we know what we’ll do when certain things come our way, but the truth is, we really don’t until it happens, and so it does no good to spend an exorbitant amount of time stressing about it. Don’t let your fears and worries steal precious living time.

  1. Yes! The preparation must be part of the journey and “the journey is everything.” If the preparation is just “are we there yet?” or “life won’t begin until I get this grevious thing done,” that’s miserable.

  2. My Dad was approaching the end of his life and he was well aware of it. His optimism and appreciation continued to shine. He said, “We can’t let the fear of our last day deprive us of the joy that we can have today.” Even in his difficulties, which were many, he chose to be joyful for today. Even death could not rob him of that. Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is not here yet. Today is what we have. Be glad. 🙂
