Drew’s First Day Of School

Complete with pictures!
First Day Excitement
Drew started his very first day of kindergarten today, and it was a momentous event for all of us. Drew went at it like he’d been prepared for this day since he was born, not even showing a hint of fear at missing his mama. Mama, on the other hand, was trying her best to hold it together.

Putting On Brave Face
It helps to have a little one to hug to your side, but not so much when one little boy turns and waves as he’s going into the classroom yelling, “I love you MOM!” Very heart-wrenching, indeed. Thank you to the anonymous parent behind us who provided some comic relief saying, “I love you too, whoever you are!” He he.

Beau was convinced he was going to school this morning too, arguing with Drew vehemently about it. He was a little torn up when he realized he had to come home with mommy, but recovered quickly when he was recruited to help bake bread. He was overjoyed though, when mommy announced that we were going to pick up his big brother.

Running to Hug

Mommy peaked in on Drew when we went to pick him up, unable to contain her curiosity. He looked like he was enjoying himself, and much to mommy’s delight, he was looking for her and waved happily.

Intent on Mom

All in all, it seemed to be a very successful first day, and tears were averted on all sides. 🙂

  1. Oh my goodness, I can’t believe he’s that big already. That means Jonah must be too! And that is so not possible. Sigh.

I’m very happy for you that you managed not to dissolve into a messy puddle. Good job. 😉

  2. Seriously…those last two photos made me laugh outloud so hard! Everything up to that point was so poignant and sweet, the photos perfect, and there she is covered in lord knows what with her finger up her nose! Classic!

  3. LOVE that pic with the finger up the nose! LOL

I did well with first days of school with my kids. But I did not handle it well when my son finally got his orders to report to the Air Force and what job he would have. I sobbed! He is getting a good career, though. It is just real now.
